Unlock Your Creativity: Break Free from the Convenience Trap

I’ve recently started cooking for myself again, making big batches of healthy vegetable soup. This way, when late-night cravings hit, I have something nutritious and easy to digest on hand instead of reaching for chips or other sugary processed snacks that weigh me down and dull my focus. I usually try to avoid those, but on nights when I come home late, it’s all too tempting to indulge in mindless eating.

See, I’m all in on this movement, and I recently bought a hat that says MAHA—Make America Healthy Again. If I’m going to wear it proudly, I need to start with myself. Over the years, I’ve made some radical changes that have led me to a point where I don’t take any medication—zero meds. There was a time when my doctor suggested I take thyroid pills for my depression, but my entire being rejected that solution. Instead, I healed myself completely from depression and debilitating burnout without resorting to medication, and since then, I’ve embraced a pharma-free life.

The MAHA movement has ignited a fresh passion in me—to recommit to being Awake, Alive, and Audacious. This isn’t just a catchy tagline; it represents my authentic J.O.B. (Joy of Being). I am turning 60 in a few years and truly it’s just a number. I feel more vibrant, adventurous, and youthful now than I did in my 30s and 40s. I’m grateful for this journey, living each day to its fullest, with my spirit awake and thriving.

Breaking the Cycle

I took on the challenge of cutting out processed foods and sugar, feeling confident that I was doing great—having ditched soda long ago and typically avoiding pasta, rice, bread, and candy (just to clarify, I mean candy, not chocolate!), along with fast food. However, I was shocked to realize that chips and pastries had become a force of habit. Without this challenge, I wouldn’t have been aware just how mindlessly they show up on my plate, especially since they seem to be everywhere! It wouldn’t be such a big deal if we, as consumers, could trust that the food readily available to us is genuinely good for our health. That’s where the real danger lies—letting others dictate what we should do with our body, mind, spirit, and soul.

The Power of Awareness

Awareness can be a double-edged sword; it forces you to confront your choices while also empowering you to make better ones. I’m not aiming to be a health nut; I seek a balance between enjoyment, freedom, and health. While I truly enjoy my partner’s delicious meals and grateful for the time saved not slaving in the kitchen, I realized I had slipped into a rut, sacrificing my own joy and creativity. In valuing convenience, I’ve unknowingly surrendered my power over my food choices, opting for the easy way out. This overreliance on convenience makes us stop thinking for ourselves, stop truly getting to know ourselves, and ultimately stop growing. We become copycats, consumers rather than creators, leaning too heavily on others to define our experiences and shape our reality.

The Ripple Effect

This had me wondering: how does this mindset that prioritizes convenience influence our businesses, relationships, leadership, and spiritual growth?

In the realm of business, choosing convenience can choke innovation. When we stick to easy answers, we often miss out on unique opportunities that require us to step outside our comfort zones. True growth and creativity thrive in exploration, not in the mundane.

In our relationships, leaning on convenience can create surface level and unfulfilling relationships. When we rely on others for our happiness without actively engaging, we miss out on the richness that comes from genuine interaction. Deep, meaningful relationships demand effort and vulnerability—elements easily lost in a convenience-driven world.

Spiritually, a focus on convenience can mute our inner voice. It diverts us from practices that foster growth, such as meditation and self-reflection. Instead of nurturing our spiritual selves, we risk slipping into autopilot, merely going through the motions rather than living with intention.

Ultimately, convenience mindset contributes to a troubling trend: the dumbing down of human consciousness. When we stop questioning and engaging with the world around us, we limit our thinking and box ourselves in. As I often emphasize on my podcast, Soul Power to the People, this dumbing down of consciousness is a profound crime against humanity. It keeps us trapped in complacency and disconnects us from fully expressing and fulfilling our divine potential.

Hidden Price Tag

To reiterate, relying too much on convenience can come with significant drawbacks:

  • Stunted Growth: If we simply rely on what’s convenient, we miss the chance to discover what genuinely works for us. This stifles our personal and professional development.
  • Shallow Connections: In relationships, choosing convenience can create a sense of emptiness. We might have many acquaintances but lack real, meaningful connections.
  • Spiritual Disconnection: Focusing on ease can dull our awareness of our own divinity. When we skip deeper spiritual practices, we might forget about our true potential.
  • Cultural Complacency: This mindset can lead to a society where critical thinking and creativity fade. When we stop engaging our minds, we allow a cycle of complacency to take hold.
