“You prepare a table before me… my cup overflows.” (Psalm 23:5)
Last night I went to a John Mellencamp concert with Dale. It was a Father’s Day gift I bought a month ago, and he picked the artist.
As we walked into Mystic Lake Amphitheater, I smiled and said, “Happy Father’s Day.”
He looked at me, confused. “Father’s Day was a month ago.”
“Remember? That’s when I bought these tickets.”
We laughed, walking on air, both excited like kids going to their first concert.
And then a little poke to our giggly bubble.
I’d printed the confirmation email because I couldn’t find the barcoded ticket. The first gate wouldn’t let us in and suggested we try Guest Services. It was closed.
So we went to the other gate. This attendant patiently walked me through resetting my Ticketmaster password. “I really wish we’d go back to printed tickets,” he said. Then, “You don’t need to download anything — it’s already in your Apple Wallet. Just place your phone here.”
That was the first provision of the evening. One we would have missed if Dale and I had gotten impatient and crabby. We didn’t. Our giggly bubble didn’t burst.
Then came the second surprise.
We had lawn tickets. I’d assumed we’d be standing, maybe finding a spot in the crowd, dancing the night away. Except I saw people carrying in lawn chairs, and that had me pause. Maybe we needed chairs too.
So while Dale grabbed a drink, I asked the woman renting chairs how much. “$10,” she said, then added, almost as an afterthought, “If you want, Guest Services is offering seat upgrades for $20 each.”
I didn’t think twice. It was nearly 90 degrees. I could already imagine melting on that lawn with no shade. Just like that, my plan for the evening quietly rearranged itself.
Forty dollars later, we were walking toward Section 101, under the canopy. Better seats. Better view. An experience I hadn’t planned for.

Walking past the lawn, watching people sit in the heat, I found myself whispering, “Thank You, God. Thank You, God.”
Because that’s what struck me.
The provision wasn’t just the better seats. It was the unexpected kindness. The timing. The people. The information I needed exactly when I needed it. The seat I didn’t know I needed.
Sometimes God’s provision isn’t changing the destination.
Sometimes it’s changing your seat.
Where did provision appear today that you almost missed?
